Jacob was with a lot of friends at that cold and raining night, they were hanging out at the back of the high school they studied. It was also at the end of the year, it means that they were close to exams' days. The boys, especially Jacob, haven't done very well that school year, so they would have to do really good exams to pass.
They decided to break in the school to take a look at the exam. They wouldn't have any trouble to get in the school, as one of the boys was the son of the principal so he had easy access to the keys. Jut when everybody seemed to be ready to get in the school, all the boys changed their minds and only Jacob actually got in. He was scared to death to caught. But if he didn't do that, he wouldn't have any chance to pass on the exams. And even worse than that, he would have to tell the truth for his parents: that he failed.
On Monday, right after he got at school, he heard the announcements and all the boys who were with him that night were asked to go to the office. After a while, maybe 30 minutes, he was also called at the office. He panicked. As he got at the principal's office, everybody was staring him as if he was the worse person on the world. The principal asked if Jacob was with those boys on Friday night. He couldn't deny it, otherwise, the boys would say he was lying.
- Yes, Sir. - Jacob said in a scared voice. He could even predict what was going to happen next.
The principal showed him the video records from the school cameras. The video showed someone inside the school, but they couldn't say who it was because the person was wearing a hat. The camera could tell, though, who all the boys outside the school, near the doors, were. That's why they were all called at the office first, they were asked to say who the boy that broke into the school was. He was going to be the only one punished.
Jacob wasn't expelled, lucky. His punishment was to take several volunteer hours, which wasn't that bad. The actual punishment to himself. was to talk to his parents, to say he would fail and to say he did something even worse to try to fix that. His parents would take a while to trust him again.
Reflection:
By this flash fiction, we can reflect how the fear of the others knowing the truth you want to hide, make you do bad things which you will probably regret for a long time.
